A string of earthquakes?

What with a string of earthquakes this year?

Seems that the fault lines are a little bit active lately. Does this have a connection with the Mayan prediction that the end of the world is going to happen by 2012?

It is quite hard to believe. Currently, I am trying to put together the puzzle myself, and of course being a researcher and not a scientist I have limited resources. Which is why this might take some time...
